Milton Manufacturing is looking for a skilled 3D Metrology & Scanning Specialist to support our Quality team with advanced dimensional inspection and measurement analysis. This role focuses on operating portable scanning arms and 3D measurement systems to inspect complex manufactured components and ensure dimensional accuracy across production.

You’ll work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to analyze scan data, identify dimensional issues, and support documentation for customer and internal quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional inspections using portable articulated scanning arms such as FARO, Hexagon Absolute Arm, or similar equipment
• Create and maintain inspection programs in PolyWorks Inspector for repeatable measurement routines
• Conduct 3D scanning and probing inspections for first article, in-process, and final quality checks
• Generate mesh scans, CAD comparisons, and deviation analysis reports
• Produce detailed inspection documentation including balloon drawings, dimensional reports, and GD&T validation
• Review engineering drawings and interpret GD&T requirements following ASME Y14.5 standards
• Partner with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve dimensional discrepancies
• Maintain calibration documentation for metrology equipment and ensure measurement systems remain accurate
• Assist with PPAP, APQP, FAIR, and ISIR documentation by providing dimensional inspection data
• Support development of inspection plans, control plans, and quality procedures
• Perform part alignment using best-fit, datum, and RPS alignment techniques
• Identify opportunities to improve inspection workflows and measurement efficiency


Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating portable scanning arms or 3D metrology equipment
• Strong proficiency with PolyWorks Inspector for scanning, measurement programming, and reporting
• Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Experience analyzing mesh data and performing CAD-to-part comparisons
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on measurement accuracy
• Ability to troubleshoot dimensional issues and support root cause analysis
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering and production teams
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word


Education & Experience

3+ years of experience performing dimensional inspections with FARO, Hexagon, or similar scanning systems
• Experience with 3D scanning, mesh analysis, and CAD comparison workflows
• Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and engineering specifications
• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate degree or technical training in Metrology, Quality, Manufacturing, or Engineering Technology preferred
• Experience with PolyWorks Modeler or advanced mesh processing tools is a plus
• Familiarity with IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 quality standards
• Previous involvement in PPAP, APQP, or FAIR documentation in automotive, aerospace, or defense environments preferred
• Certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) are beneficial
• Experience with additional metrology software such as PC-DMIS, Geomagic, or Verisurf is a plus
• Basic familiarity with CAD platforms like SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX

Pay Range

USD $55,000.00 - USD $62,000.00 /Yr.
